It happened on Bank Holiday Monday so I imagine it's because the diagrams were different. It can happen because the SWT 158 comes up from Salisbury attached to an FGW 150. The SWT 158 is booked to work the Golden Valley route, the FGW 150 works to Weymouth and later ends up at Paignton. In the past they have been swapped occasionally. I don't think it should happen any more now as the Paignton diagram attaches to 2 143s for one service on school days, and if it was a 158 instead of a 150 it may well be over length for some platforms. On Bank Holiday Monday that service didn't need to be strengthened to a 6-car so there was no issue using the 158.
