SVR Event 'Working Timetable' - for £5

This is, according to the SVR website, indeed a working timetable for the upcoming Steam Gala, available for a fiver.

I'm just wondering - does this mean that, for each SVR event, will punters only be able to find out which locos are working when and where etc. only if they part with more money? I'm not massively complaining, they need all the money they can get and so on, but it just feels a bit of a pinch. For lack of a better word.

They don't do it with all the events.

But the working time table is basicly what you said, Gives Locomotive/Locomotives, which way they head etc.

If normal person they can be very handy especially if taking photographs overal.

The SVR has been charging this for the Autumn Steam Gala WTT for a number of years (I remember they were doing so back in 2004). I received mine for this year's event today, having ordered it online on Sunday evening (very efficient of them). It isn't just a list of what locos is working what trains, it is a very detailed document which is a 32 page A4 size booklet which also covers all shunting movements etc.

Personally I think loco diagrams should be provided free of charge and in advance (see my comments on the NYMR Diesel Gala thread at http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=70564 ) but the fact the SVR has been doing it this way for its steam event indicates it must work for them in this instance. In general, steam fans are different to diesel ones, the latter normally going for specific locos and want to avoid others. In my case this time, I really needed to see the SVR diagrams - I have a rather busy weekend, attempting to cover the SVR, Churnet Valley and East Lancs, and wanted to know what 30120, 31806 and 34053 are booked to work so I can plan my visit accordingly.

Surely the point is that laying on such an event for us all to enjoy is not cheap and the SVR needs to cover its costs and hopefully make a profit. It also ensures that lineside photograghers who don't intend to travel on the line contribute something towards the cost of organising the Gala.

Except at the last kettle gala when they had all sold out by Sunday morning, so anybody arriving from mid-morning onwards had no means of finding out what locos were working which trains.

No consolation for those who decided on the day to attend (and I only decided to go when I found out the 31 was working, due to not enough steam locos to cover all the diagrams).

And the North Norfolk seemed to have a policy of not disclosing information about loco rosters to anybody who was unable to obtain a copy of the working timetable.
