Is it common during delays for some Sutton terminators to run fast between there and West Croydon as I experienced today?

Is it common during delays for some Sutton terminators to run fast between there and West Croydon as I experienced today?

I've also experienced this when there was a broken down train on the slows at Balham - the staff at Sutton were doing an excellent job of announcing each train and its calling pattern, the poor guy doing it had barely enough time to catch his breath!

Not sure how common it is, but I did wonder at the time!

The Thameslink trains and then West Croydon - Guildfords used to run fast on this stretch, so it's certainly happened. Some possibly called at Wallington at one time. I seem to recall three different patterns displayed on an old London Connections map.

I think the peak fasts today are all stations though, until West Croydon/Norwood Junction.

A quick look at the 1728 London Bridge to Guildford is fast to Norwood Junction, then all stops via Sutton. These services used to operate on the Sydenham slow until May 2010.
