Sutton London to Fareham

Looking either for a one-way, or a return. Outward tomorrow after noon, if I return it'd be Saturday 19th ideally mid-morning, but ok to arrive in London after 2pm.

National Rail throws up for nearly every route it returns that it's unable to find fares. I don't understand why most wouldn't be acceptable for the "not via London" fares I see on BR Fares.

E.g. it can't find a fare for:
Sutton - Clapham Junction d1221 a1301
Clapham Junction - Basingstoke d1312 a1347
Basingstoke - Fareham d1403 a1449

Any advice welcome!

Where no through fare is available you might want to try Trainsplit (essentially the forum ticketing site, linked above), and insert a via point to get the route you prefer, and you should be offered an appropriate combination of tickets. However, you will likely be tied to the same route for the return journey if you do that.

Yes, that’s covered by SC+PD which also allows travel via Wimbledon instead of Clapham Junction.

Thanks everyone, that's very helpful.

Setting the NR site to avoid Basingstoke threw up a few advance fares via Barnham. Also an off-peak return of £29.35. About 20 minutes longer than the routes via Basingstoke which isn't terrible.

The site's engine found a few other (but slightly longer) routes. Thinking I might just go with the andvanced single and figure out the weekend travel separately. Thanks again.

Ok, things got a bit weird. I ended up getting a one-day Z1-6 travelcard from Sutton as I had to go into and out of London twice in the morning anyway. I then tried to buy a BZ6-Fareham single but got a period return (£21.50) which of course is not valid with one-days. Then I was sold an excess at Clapham Junction, for £5.55 on top.

The excess ticket is still a Super Off-Peak Return, marked:
From Fareham
To Clapham Junction
Via London. Not valid on

I have no idea what it is not valid on. I'll use the return tomorrow to arrive in Londonish after 2pm. Wish me luck.
