I was on the opposite platform to them on Thursday about midday and couldn't quite tell what they were discussing. Come to mention it, there were a few workers around the East Lancashire Line that day. What work is planned here in the next few weeks and months?

The level crossing is due to be converted to CCTV along with Brierfield at some point this year and the boxes will close. The surveyors may have been connected with that.
There has also been a lot of rail renewals on the East Lancs lines in the last few months.
