Surbiton to Oban, help again please!

Hi there,
I asked about this once before but I can't find the old thread and I'm getting a lot of confusion online!
2 adults and 2 kids with a F&F railcard need to go from surbiton to Oban, leaving the evening of the 22nd august and returning the 29th august. We would like to go via the sleeper train from London to Glasgow. Can you help? Which site do I book with and should I split tickets? When I look it up online it seems I have to go via Edinburgh and change? I know we did this last year direct to Glasgow, then took a train from Glasgow to Oban, I just can't find how and where to book it!

Thanks! The plans in terms of dates, times, and people are more definite now and I still can't figure out how to book the sleeper train, so all info is most welcome. Thanks again

Hi Tanya, currently reservations are open for your outward journey on 22nd August but not from Glasgow - Oban on 23rd August or your return journey. Also, unfortunately you can't buy child sleeper tickets on Scotrail's website, so it would be pointless to try and buy your sleeper tickets online.

Your sleeper tickets need to be purchased from Scotrail telesales 08457 55 00 33 (open 07.00 - 22.00 seven days). This Friday is the first day all your tickets are likely to be available but since it's a bank holiday you might have to wait a bit longer.

I would suggest buying separate tickets Surbiton - London Terminals, Euston - Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street - Oban.

Surbiton - London Terms is £11.60 each way for your whole group, though that doesn't include your cross-city transfer. Someone else will be able to advise if it is more practical to purchase a different product.

Glasgow - Oban: I'm not sure what time you want to return on 29/8 or whether you wanted to use the sleeper again. An open return for your whole group would cost £64-66, but advance fares would reduce this.

While Surbiton - London and Glasgow - Oban can be bought online now, it's worth waiting until cheaper tickets are released. Also, tickets for these routes can also be bought from Scotrail telesales (not just your sleeper ones) so it might be easier for you to buy them all in one transaction, explaining you wish to split your journey three ways.
