Super Voyager Evening Meal.

Does anyone know what the current Evening Meal options are for the 221s? Travelling on the 1810 Euston - Holyhead next Tuesday.

Tuesday 20th December is "Outdoor reared beef in black velvet porter with potatoes" or "Vegetable Dahl." Sounds nice, but whether you would call the small microwaved pot you receive as a "meal" is debatable.

So is "black velvet porter" really just an old-fashioned way of saying "orange-vested station assistant", I wonder, instead of something edible, as it might sound like to those with higher hopes?

Porter is an ale made with roasted grain (as opposed to malted grain).
Stronger types of porter are called stout, ie guinness.

Yes, well... Virgin like to pretend it's not microwaved, you see.

(The meals are exactly the same as CrossCountry - except that they're a little better and Virgin are supposed to go to the effort of transferring the food onto a plate. I haven't experienced this every time, though.)

Outdoor reared beef

I traelled on a Super Voyager tonight. I had the Goats Cheese Tart which came with a few potatoes. Tasty but suffice to say, it wasn't very filling although the Blackcurrent Dessert Pot was quite nice. Quite surprised that for the peak service, the loading in First was very quiet and the host very quickly got bored and had a nap after serving us!

In contrast, on Friday's Pendolino, I had a very filling Vegetarian Pie with plenty of vegetables!
