Afternoon folks,

Sadly I am quite rusty on my restrictions these days (...plus they seem to be forever changing) so any advice would be fanastic please. Any restrictions on a super off peak travelcard when travelling on SWT? I presume (..perhaps I shouldn't) there is only a morning restriction of before 10.00?

Cannot arrive London terminals until after 1200.

Cannot depart Waterloo to travel outside the zones between 1600 and 1900, Vauxhall 1604 - 1904, Clapham Jn 1607 - 1909

SWT's version of the restrictions is here, you'll need to scroll down the page:

Travel time:

Towards London Waterloo and any station in London Zones 1-6:
Valid on trains arriving into London Waterloo at 1200, or later, Monday to Friday*.
From London:

Not valid if you board a train at: London Waterloo or Victoria between 1600 and 1900; Vauxhall between 1604 and 1904; Clapham Junction between 1607 and 1909. All times are inclusive, Monday to Friday*.
Super Off-Peak Day Travelcards are valid from London Waterloo or Victoria, Vauxhall and Clapham Junction during the restricted times mentioned above, but only if your journey is wholly within London Zones 1-6.
Valid at any time during weekends and public holidays.

https://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/tickets-explained/tickets/

It is the (normal) Offpeak Day travelcard that allows for arrival after 1000, and has no pm restriction out of Waterloo.

not that I am likely to use a one day travelcard from SWT-Land at the moment as I have a season, but re the pm peak restriction...

Taking what SWT say at face value, that implies it would be OK during the evening peak to board a westbound train home at somewhere like Richmond / Wimbledon.

Is that the case, or does it really mean 'you can't travel home on a train that leaves Waterloo between X and Y?'

Presumably the bit from Waterloo to Richmond / Wimbledon would be OK as it's a journey inside the zones - as would a journey to Richmond by Underground or Overground.

And if you are allowed to do what I say, would you physically need to exit and re-enter at whichever station you do it?

yeah, that's fine. That restriction only applies if you board at Waterloo, Vauxhall, Clapham, etc.

In any case, the way the electronic restrictions are coded means that stations previously called at before boarding a train can never be considered.

As I have always understood it, because SWT's Super Off-peak is only sold from origins outside the zones towards London, the overall effect of this restriction is to remove the option of using a fast train during the evening peak on the mainline side, because of their calling patterns. Yes you can get on some trains at Earlsfield and beyond, but nearly all the services calling are all stations stoppers.

I've never looked at how it works on the Windsor side, will depend on exact calling patterns beyond Clapham Jn.

On the Windsor lines I believe all trains stop at Richmond, which makes the evening peak restrictions on outboundary travelcards unenforceable.

Another point I wouldn't mind checking too please -

Is Break of journey outside Z1-6 allowed e.g. at Staines

just a thought -

Staines has automatic barriers - would the barriers know this, or would they reject or retain the ticket?

The default position is that barriers are not programmed for break of journey, but staff must let you in or out.
