Sunday on the East Lancs

Hi all

I just wanted to say that my other half and I had a very enjoyable Sunday travelling on the East Lancs Railway in Bury.

There were two trains in steam, tank engine Earl David and a black tender locomotive. I'm not very good on loco classes and names, so perhaps someone on here could advise what types they are?

Anyway, the line is very pretty and we did two complete round trips. We also visited the Trackside Bar where the food and beer was lovely!

My wife, who is not really a train buff, really enjoyed the day, especially going through the tunnels amongst clouds of smoke! We were both surprised at how busy the trains were, and according to one of the staff it was the same on Saturday.

All the staff we saw and spoke to were brilliant, really friendly and knowledageable, so thanks to all at the ELR for a wonderful day!

glad you had a good day on the elr. I will feed your comments back to the members. The black tender locomotive was a black 5 no 44871. Owned by Ian riley it is most famous for being one of the locos that ran the return leg of 1t57, the last scheduled steam hauled train , then , on the 11th August 1968
