Summer Saturday extra Bristol-Weymouth

Hi all,

The new summer timetable has been published and I see there is a extra saturday traim from Bristol-Weymouth and return as previous years.

Will this service be 2 x 67 top and tail like last yr or the HST as rummered???

Will be a 1st if they use a HST.

booked to be 67 prob the ones of cardiff paignton services but not sure, hst vice a unit a few weeks back to weymouth, but I am out for this on saturday so as long as unit doesn't turn up I will be happy

HSTs have been used a couple of times before, as d1015 fan has said. But anyway, 67s should be good agreed!

Make the most of it as MR states that the 15 class 150 units from LOROL/LM will be drafted in by next summer to eliminate loco haulage on FGW (except the Night Riviera of course).

That is very true, but whether that is enough to cover additional running costs is debatable.

Yes - an HST was working one of the diagrams yesterday and the day before apparently...

So did anyone see what travelled down from Bristol-Weymouth today, as the first summer saturday extra??
Was it the 67s or a HST.

Yes I've been on it today, the front coach was full of enthusiasts between Trowbridge and Bristol. 67018 + 4 mk2 + 67016 on the back.

At a guess it will probably be 67s all summer but someone else may have more definitive info.

fantastc run with both 67's a change from the paignton cardiff's with them was well worth travelling to bristol to do the first one of the year, but there is rumour has it could be hst but nothing defo

I think it's 2 per unit; But bike acceptance is down to the guard, if he feels there's insufficient room then no more are allowed on, for obvious safety reasons, so you could be in for a long wait.

Went to Weymouth to meet my wife off the 12.08 from Bath. It was late held up by the 67's. When the loco-hauled set arrived it was with only 67017. I joked to the guard (EWS) if he'd lost a loco on the way down, hence the delay. He said that someone at head office had a moment of unusual common sense, and decided the train would be cheaper to run, if they only used one loco, rather than paying for two and the extra fuel to drag a dead loco each way, when it sits for 5 hours in a run-round loop in Weymouth carriage sidings before going back. The Summer Saturday train is now 1x67 with a run-round in Weymouth Jersey sidings in the afternoon. (It looks like a proper train now, not a pseudo-unit!!)

That makes a lot of sense!

At Bristol TM on 10 July we saw a 67 and 4 coaches forming the 0909 Weymouth service in platfrom 11, pretty sure it was just one loco!

train is one loco as per the previous quote it is cheaper, I had it on first day when it was top and tailed which was better than the single loco. but there is plenty of time to run it round and propel it back.
