That reminds me of some rather unfortunate clothes I used to have, was a bit too young for the rave scene though

Rob, I'm having trouble imagining you with your current hairstyle and beard raving away in 1989

I suspect so, because I was still at school! I was a bit young to go to any raves, although there was a lot in our area where I lived at the time.

I did however go to a few house parties, and I remember that year as the long hot summer, doing long 60 mile cycle rides and the music was damn good, well apart from the Jason and Kylie stuff, I'm thinking more the Happy mondays, stone roses, 808 state that sort if thing. 1988-1993 was a good time for me, combo of age and circumstances. Think 1990 I got me first All line rover! lol

Makes me laugh though how some of these commentators say raves were just 'the youth escaping from thatcherism'. I seem to remember it was a lot of middle class youths in the home countries out for a good time and the whole concept of youth culture was market led - whether that was from PWL records, 'the word', on the TV, illegal drugs, advertising or whatever, and is damn all to do with politics. Most of the people at the raves then would now be in their late 30s/40s, the people that present radio 1 or the same age as people in come back 'bands' like That That. That said Take That started all the boy band stuff in the early 90s which somewhat killed all the dance/rave scene. Although a few people being shot in Manchester clubs didn't help..

PS only had the beard for a year or so!
