Do you miss the gentle click clicking of a Qualcast hand mower and the clip clip of hedge shears.......

Yes, I remember those summer gardening sounds too, but by own favourite "back in the day" was lying awake on a warm summer night, bedroom windows wide open, most of the general urban background noise having subsided and hearing the characteristic Sulzer putter of a Class 25, or a whistling Class 40 in the distance, together with the dum-dum-dum-dum of 16-ton wagons on jointed track as another load of coal was hauled away from the local colliery.

If your in the Med area, then its the sound of Cicadas, heard them In Greece, Croatia, South of France. Never heard them in Lisbon however.

I can confirm that on a headland near St Just in the far west of Cornwall on the north coast last night there were in fact, crickets...

Rarely hear them up here in Scotland. i noticed them in Bournemouth in July. Surprised they are still going as its cooler.

Depending on the wind direction, when I was a lad, I could hear steam engines either passing Stechford or Tyseley.
Not at all annoying.
