How does the frequency of stopping services to intermediate stations on the Styal line

a) at Styal itself

b) at stations north of Heald Green junctions

compare between today and circa 1990, before the airport line was built?

Have stopping trains been squeezed off the line by airport trains?

The pattern of services in days of yore were very simple - an all-stations Altrincham to Alderley Edge every half an hour!

Overall the service levels on the Syal line are greatly increased since then, along with more destinations and through trains. But the residents of Styal must feel a bit aggreived. It's little more than a Parliamentary service now.

There is still the hourly Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe stopping service that has to reverse at Manchester Airport.

With regard to Styal station, there has been a slight increase in calling patterns over recent years. I think there is a "Friends of Styal Station group".
