we had Railtrack (as they were then) come to us and showed us some recreations of real stories like the kids who were at what appeared to be Willesden depot who were messing around in VT mk2s before one of em walks off after an arguement and gets hit by a 313. And I'll bet that it didn't fully sink in.

We did too, but the best, most hard hitting stories were off one particular old school teacher. Got a story of a lad who used to use the railway line as a shortcut to school, hopping on rope hauled hoppers for a lift, until one day he slipped...........
He was lucky, he survived.......his legs did not!
Got a few gory stories like that.
We also got the standard cartoon book from BR/Railtrack, but all we did there was colour in and splodge red all over the place!!!!!!

Re that video! Very lucky indeed kept his foot by a cm!

Ah, Manor Way L/C - on a footpath to nowhere. Those barriers go down for a long time, and only raise when the pelican crossing style button is pushed (and the track is clear obviously). Words can't describe how stupid (and lucky) that lad was - you can see a train coming from a long way off down there so quite why anyone would want to risk it is beyond me

Seen it at Colwick Crossing a few times, though the barriers there are down for a stupidly long length of time. But that crossing is on a long corner, so you can't see it til it's on top of you :roll:

Probably thrill seeking. Made him feel a man that he dodged a train.

I think this highlights the main problem with British society, in that a lot of people are ignorant of their surroundings, and little respect is shown by such people for not just the lives of others, but of their own as well.

I think he was oblivious to it coming judging by his reaction! Either that or its speed. If you look at the video, he even looked the wrong way! Probably an american kid, that'll explain it!

Well if they cant wait for a few minuntes , then I think it's there own thought if they get hit and I wont worry about them I just feel sorry for the driver thats just hit that person as I know some dont return to work.

Make it stupidly graphic and actually show the bodies of those whom havce been hit by trains or actually arrange trips for offenders to be shown what comes about from playing on the line (As In one on one visits to line with high speeds and explain to them what they seem to obviously not know)

Unfortunately the recreations are done on a budget, and end up being more comical than shocking. Either that or they are so old they end up being laughed at as soon as someone with big hair appears.

The only thing kids would listen to is a talk from someone who had survived this sort of thing (and as horrible as it sounds) the more disfigured the better.

^^^^^ Thats quite true. I would pay attenion to someone who has been/nearly been in an incedent because with a train, apposed to showing that video. Also those kind of videos can give people the idea of: its dangerous, but he didnt die, so I might not die doing it!
