Stupid questions from passengers

When I worked in Crewe for Royal Mail, I go through the station quite often and being the 90s our uniform is fairly similar to the railway staff given the numerous times I get asked by passengers, I do try to help if I can, British Rail should put me on their payroll

I rather think many of the 'stupid questions' on this post are either made up or exaggerated somewhat having done the rounds countless times.

From experience, most if what I'm seeing here are genuine. It's not just a railway thing though, it happens in all sorts of fields.

I don't work for the railways, and don't behave (I think) or dress in any way that suggests "staff". However, I am surprised how often, when waiting for a train, I am approached by a passenger asking "is this the platform for...?" or "is this the train to...?"

Perhaps it's just the grey hair....

Happens to me all the time when I'm abroad - it's almost a standing joke now with a friend I often travel with; but, funnily enough, not often in Britain.... Maybe I have very continental style of grey-means-wisdom!

Yeah, it's genuinely every domain.

Working in Higher Education for a while was particularly eye opening.

You have students with excellent A Level results coming to a top ten university, lacking the most basic common sense, and asking the dumbest things. Come to think of it, the academics weren't much better sometimes either.

On the subject of “passengers trying to board non-passenger trains” Arno Brooks tells the tale of a family who were insistent that they would get to Paddington from Acton Main Line in the rear cab of a pair of 31s that were headed for Cricklewood…..

I have to gently point out that it is possible to be born in rural wales and have never seen a train, is my grandson asking a stupid question when he says. “What is a railway”

It is
'Does it stop at Morley'?

And repeat!
