A London council has been urged to crack down on the Fifa video game over the bribery scandal at football’s world governing body.



Labour councillor Awale Olad is calling for Camden council to “take a strong stand” against corruption by “discouraging” people from buying the game - or hosting tournaments in pubs in the borough.

He hopes doing so will “hurt” the embattled organisation, which is facing two large-scale corruption probes led by the FBI and Swiss authorities.

Councillor Olad, who represents the ward of Holborn and Covent Garden, was quoted in the Camden New Journal as saying: “As a local authority we should take a strong stand against corrupt individuals and organisations and we should start off by hurting their business by discouraging people from buying their popular video games and put a stop to FIFA video game tournaments popping up across the borough.”

So he doesn't understand that the game itself has only licensed the name from FIFA and as such has probably given it all the money they are ever going to so that wont hurt them. Yet if they stop the tournaments in pubs and that then people wont go to pubs for that very reason(say a Tuesday night) so then local establishments lose out on custom. Clever idea there.

Police were involved in a stand-off with a "snake" after being called by a worried resident - before realising it was a garden ornament.

Officers were called to an address in Sutton, south-west London, when a passer-by phoned the RSPCA saying a snake was "on the loose".

The RSPCA passed the information onto police at just after 6.30am on Friday and a patrol car went to the scene.

After arriving at around 7.17am, officers stood and watched the "reptile", but kept their distance from the "venomous adder", which was "lying very still on a patio" at a block of flats.

Soon after, officers were told by a local resident that the "snake" was in fact a garden ornament.

I wonder whether the officers were all five minutes short of qualifying for overtime when they arrived on the scene...?

Just reading the snake story, I'm reminded of this gem from a few years back.

Police are today trying to trace the owner of a toy life-size tiger which sparked a major operation involving armed officers and a force helicopter.

Rhe alert was raised by several members of the public yesterday afternoon when they spotted what they believed to be a live white tiger in a field near Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire.

The police helicopter was scrambled and a golf course cleared after police arrived at the scene and confirmed the sighting.

Armed police were called to the scene in case the animal came too close to members of the public...

Woman superglued to her own front door in cruel prank by bullies

A woman was superglued to her own front door for three hours in a cruel prank by bullies.

Emergency services used lubricants, oils and even cola to try and unstick Finoa Crabb but in the end had to take the handle off the door and saw her free in hospital.

The 28-year old says she was stuck for so long because emergency service call handlers thought her call was a joke at first.

She has since hit out at the unidentified pranksters- who she believes she saw running from the block of flats as she arrived home on Thursday evening.

Fiona said: ‘I got home after spending the evening with my friend who lives nearby and was confused when I realised the door handle was sticky.
‘I did manage to get the door open and woke up my partner Tony, but I just couldn’t free myself.

‘I don’t understand why anyone would do something so stupid. I’d rather not know who did it as I’d be too upset.’

Fiona added: ‘I was really worried, as it was quite painful....."

We had a real snake on the loose round our way last year, a rather large python no less. Thankfully it was safely captured by people who knew what they were doing, unlike the idiot that thought it would make a good house pet. It was subsequently rehomed in a zoo.

One that got quite widely reported for some reason

The bright red letter box frontage appeared about a metre above water level on a parapet of the bridge, which crosses the river.
Villagers of Sonning-on-Thames, including Uri Geller, have been left puzzled as to how people could post letters or collect them from the box which is impossible to reach on foot and liable to flooding.
