Structured Interview

Hi everyone, just recieved feedback from the opc regarding a failed structured interview. I asked about their marking structure and they said they its either a pass of a fail no grades as such, and all they could tell me is that I failed on one section which was "dealing with an emergency situation" and they couldnt expand on that.

Does the above sound correct ?

would like to say although i didnt get the result i wanted the two ladys who ran the day were lovely and although not a fun day they were helpfull and professional.

Sounds about right. The lack of 'marking' or feedback on results is terrible IMO as you don't know where to improve!

If you don't mind is asking and so others can help. What did you use as a scenario for your emergency situation?

The situation I used was when a passenger was found unconcious on a train as i was about to despatch it, apparently he fell as the train came into the platform and when i got there he was with a off duty nurse who was assesing him. I called for the team leader who was on the same platform (2 seconds away) and then handled comms with the box and driver and moved passengers around to other services. I think as i never called the ambulance straight away it was a fail and plus when questioned as to why i said because my team leader is trained to a higher first aid standard than me so i asked for her opinion.

Ive gave an example of being a pilot with smoke in the cabin. Again, its two pilots so my answer could have cocked me up. She wanted to know MY exact actions in the scenario.

During my SI I was asked for a second example for this question different from what I had written down. The woman interviewing me was obsessed with time scales on how long I had been dealing with the situation on my own.

I think you've got it here.

I did a CBI a while ago. For the emergency situation, my example was when I was in responsible for a group of people, and I organised things during the event. Although I didn't make exactly the right decision at the time, the fact that I was at the centre of the situation seemed to go down well for the purposes of the CBI.

For another answer, about solving a problem, I chose a situation from a time when I worked on a railway contract, but I wasn't in charge of the situation. I'd sort of piled in to help, and made a major contribution, but I wasn't alone, and the interviewer really pressed me on this. In the end, I wished I'd picked any other situation where I'd been alone or in charge, even though my example seemed very relevant because of the railway setting.

Yeah i can see where i went wrong, its all a learning curve and it was a 2 hour grilling tbf. On the pluss side i hit five out of the six criteria so i know more about what to do now for next time. Thanks for all the comments.

After speaking to a few people who sat the tests on my day they were asked to provide other examples but i was never asked if i could give any ?
