Does anybody know if this fare (essentially a slightly cheaper SSR available for London/Reading - Stroud) is still available?

NRE and FGW don't seem to show it, and any mention of it on FGW's website has vanished, but BRFares still lists it.

BRFares is only updated at the main fares change dates, so if the ticket had been withdrawn, it would still be showing on BRFares until the May change.

I don't quite understand, but I'm in the ticket office tomorrow so can check if I have the details.

I still haven't got the foggiest what a "Stroud Special" is. But in the process of looking at prices in the area, I found some tickets for the Reading to London line which undercut the fares for that flow and a few which are phenomenally good value. I've even taken to using them myself, remaining below the radar.

RJ - it's a discounted (by 10%) SSR which was made available from London and Reading to Stroud (only in this direction). Nothing else special about it in ticketing terms I don't think, except that it is apparently only available at ticket offices for some reason. It was launched to promote tourism with the involvement of Stroud Council. In the original promotional material there were also some discounts in the town as well IIRC.

The Stroud Special is certainly still available.

Thanks! Useful to know.

Ok, thanks. I've found it in Avantix Traveller - would have checked the TiS machine but Haywain has beaten me to it!

Perhaps they're making it harder to find because they don't want people going to Swindon to find about it, and finish short?

It was initially available within WebTIS, but it wasn't retailing correctly once tickets were issued/collected, so have had to make it available at ticket offices/over the phone only.

Although it issues the ticket fine, WebTIS unfortunately can't sort out the supplement/voucher that entitles the customer to a drink from the buffet.
