Ex-boxer Nicola Adams is out of Strictly Come Dancing after partner Katya Jones catches Covid-19.

Former boxer Nicola Adams and her Strictly Come Dancing partner Katya Jones have left the BBC contest after Jones tested positive for Covid-19.
A statement said the programme's "protocols" meant the pair would now isolate and would not be able to take part in the rest of the series.
They made history as the first same-sex couple to take part in the UK show.
"I'm absolutely devastated my Strictly journey has come to an end so soon," the Olympic gold medallist said.

A pro dancer on the show has tested positive and that means that she and her partner (Olympic boxer Nicola Adams) have had to withdraw from the competition. Given how strict the BBC are, there is no way that they can work around it so the couple are out completely which sucks as their journey was cut short plus they were the first ever same-sex partnership on the show.

Just goes to show that it affects all walks of life sadly.

Thankfully the show carries on with the other partnerships.

What worries me is the response by some who think that the whole show should be cancelled over this. Bonkers.

Yep! Reading through the Strictly Digital Spy forum is grim, quite a few maniacs that don't actually seem to have a clue about how COVID and bubbles etc work yet are quick to condemn anyone who gets it as selfish and 'breaking the rules' and of course, are demanding the show to be cancelled.

I was actually shocked at how little understanding any of these people had about bubbles.

The fact that the show can go on shows just how robust their protocols are. The "bubbling" of the dance couples has done its job perfectly -a positive test within cast and production has only knocked out two people of probably over a hundred working on the show.
It's been contained with minimal impact - we've being doing a lot of work in the theatres to create working practices that build resilience into a show or event. In the first instance reducing the risk of covid getting into a company or show but also to have systems in place of cohorts/bubbles/silos whatever you want to call them so that you contain it within a group when it inevitably gets in. You then have backup staff and lots of cross-training so that their roles can be covered and the show can go on

It's a damn shame for the pair as they had put so much work and effort in to have the rug pulled from under them
I will admit being drawn back in this year: Maisie's bonkers enthusiasm for the whole experience is quite infectious (sorry!) but it's the two remaining older contestants Bill Bailey and Caroline Quentin that I'm loving watching not for novelty or comedy factors but because they are genuinely good!

My wife, mother and daughters and sisters will be gutted. They love strictly. Wife is back in the UK at the moment in quarantine so Strictly is one of her pleasures. It is called Dancing with the Stars in the USA. But with extremely close contact and heavy strenuous moves the heavy breathing will be extremely likely to spread. I wonder if Nicola will catch it also.

Last I heard, Katya was asymptomatic. I presume it has been ‘found’ through some regular testing, maybe?
