I noticed Arriva are to cancel the ML1 Stretford Metrolink station to Trafford Centre bus from January. Is another operator going to take on the route or is it to stop altogether?

I know the price is high for a combined Metrolink + bus ticket to the Trafford Centre, something like £6, while there are direct buses to the Trafford Centre from Altrincham & Sale which the Arriva Day ticket (£4.20) or Altrincham PlusBus (£3.70) covers.

There are also other routes from Stretford so it isn't a major catastrophe, but you would have to get a regular Bus + Tram Daysaver.

Am lead to understand the service is getting chopped due to low Passenger Numbers

Numbers are quite low.

Times were awful (finished at 6pm).

X50 from Piccadilly seems far quicker.

Those who benefitted were passengers from Sale-Altrincham and beyond.

Will be missed, but it's a shame it's going to leave a 3-year gap until Metrolink arrives at the Trafford Centre.

Most people don't need to go to Stretford Metrolink in the first place. In the past I think a lot of people went via Stretford Metrolink because the connection was well very publicised, whereas the bus operators didn't really promote their bus routes that well.

A lot of people from Sale seem to have switched to the number 18 bus already. It's less frequent but it's direct.

I don't know if it's just the times I've travelled but usage at Stretford Metrolink seems to have dropped despite usage at other stops growing.
