With regards to being contacted when off duty, it's quite simple, don't give them your personal number and turn off your work phone when you finish duty and don't turn it back on until you start your next shift. That's what I do.

A Sutton loop can be stressful when you're a trainee

At tulse hill on a 319 you would stop very tight against a red signal on an uphill gradient due no them having no selective door operation

Off side doors at Loughborough and herne hill then right side at tulse hill. Herne hill tries to trip you up with DOO monitors on the right side but the platform on the off side

Not so bad now with 700s

However constant wrong route risks and a high chance of stopping at multiple reds have the potential to cause stress. You feel hammered by the time you get to the core then realise you have a long way to go with many more risks to manage eg the risk of setting off tpws grids at Hendon due to the AWS warning for the speed reduction being before the station... interestingly the warning at haydons road was moved after the station quite recently

Station duties on DOO trains risk the loss of focus from the task. For instance what was the signal before the station displaying? Possible to forget if a passenger is banging at the window needing assistance

Key off, train off then **** off. Don’t think about it until next shift.

The only stress is making sure you turn up in time. You make your own stress in this job so it’s important to relax and not overwhelmed by everything. Once you get a bit of experience everything should fall into place automatically.

As for emails, well it was a few months ago that I discovered that I actually had an email account with my company! Only been working there 17 years! Had hundreds of unread emails but clearly it’s not impacted my job one iota so I’ll log in once or twice a year to keep my password active.
