A few questions if I were to buy a season ticket between Streatham and Kentish Town via the Thameslink route. (I also noticed Streatham to St Pancras is more expensive.)

Would that ticket be valid for the short trip between Streatham Hill and West Norwood? If so, would I be able to go from Streatham Hill to London Bridge, and therefore be allowed to get off at New Cross Gate?

So it is - I believe there are quite a few anomalies like this on the Thameslink route.

Would that ticket be valid for the short trip between Streatham Hill and West Norwood? If so, would I be able to go from Streatham Hill to London Bridge, and therefore be allowed to get off at New Cross Gate?

No, neither of those journeys are on permitted routes from Streatham to Kentish Town so wouldn't be covered by a Streatham-Kentish Town season. For that flexibility you'd probably need a Z123 Travelcard at £123.70 per month.

edit: It should be valid on Streatham-London Bridge services though, so you could get off at Queens Road Peckham which isn't far from New Cross Gate.

Welcome to the forum.

Streatham Group is a routeing point and Kentish Town has two routeing points: London Group and West Hampstead. The valid routes between Streatham Group and London Group are shown on maps LR (the direct route to Victoria) and SL (routes via Tulse Hill to either Victoria, London Bridge or Blackfriars). Unfortunately map SL does not include the line via Crystal Palace to London Bridge. From London you then take the shortest route, or one longer by no more than 3 miles, to Kentish Town. You can also use direct trains if they take a longer route but that doesn't apply here.

Hello,

Thanks for the tips. What if I bought the ticket from West Norwood to Kentish Town? The maps aren't very clear to me in this instance.

I am just wondering where the change to Streatham Hill would be. The Thameslink would take you to Streatham station but not Streatham Hill.

What about changing at Tulse Hill and get the Southern service to West Norwood? Tulse Hill is not much of a walk from West Norwood either.

Word of advice: Never start with the maps :)

West Norwood's routeing points are Crystal Palace, Streatham Group, and Tulse Hill. Kentish Town's are London Group and West Hampstead.

If you use Streatham Group, see previous answer :) All the other routeing points pass the fare check, so you can take your choice.

Crystal Palace - London Group uses LB, LB+SL, LK, or SC.
Crystal Palace - West Hampstead uses LB or LONDON, so is essentially covered by the previous route.
Tulse Hill - London Group and Tulse Hill - West Hampstead use the same set of maps. I will use Tulse Hill as the routeing point as it's most straightforward.

Map LB: From Tulse Hill you may either go via Herne Hill to Blackfriars, City Thameslink and on to West Hampstead, or via Peckham Rye to London Bridge and from there to City Thameslink and West Hampstead. (Aside: you could quite possibly go via Croydon and New Cross Gate if you could avoid doubling back, but I'm not sure how you'd manage that.)

I think that answers your question, so I shan't muddy the waters any further :)

Map SC seems to indicate you can go to New Cross Gate.

I think what I'm trying to ask is: will a season ticket from Streatham to Kentish Town also work at Streatham Hill, even though they are different lines? And vice versa?

Do you think I'd be able to do Streatham to Kentish Town if my season ticket started at Crystal Palace or West Norwood?

All the fares are the same.

That's a completely different question again :) Can you please confirm what EXACTLY you're trying to do (what station you live near/will be commuting from, what station or stations you will be wanting to go to, whether you would like a Travelcard for when you're going other places, etc.), because the answer will be (wildly) different depending on what it is.

In general, just because the fares are the same doesn't give you anything. Where two lines are close together there are sometimes season tickets issued valid for both lines (with route "AAA OTHERSTATION"), for example you can get a season ticket from Westcombe Park routed AAA BLACKHEATH.

Also remember on the maps that you can take any route on the map to get from A to B, but you cannot double back (pass through the same station twice), even if the station isn't on the map!
