Took a trip up for the goings-on this weekend at the Strathspey Railway. They were running a steam fair in what I assume is celebration of all things steam, but my attraction was by far the doubled steam-hauled trains running. Double the trains means double the locos.

Journey starts at Aviemore (mine actually started at Glasgow!) with 170 452 departing on the 07:06 Glasgow Queen Street - Inverness.
Unfortunately, I didn't get a shot of the Broomhill train arriving as I went for Breakfast and ended up standing in line for a ticket. The loco was the recently restored Ivatt Class 2 46512, who is an absolutely, incredibly beautiful locomotive.
Here she is at Broomhill preparing another train to Aviemore. The train crew must've permitted shots like this as loads of folk went down and the train crew stood speaking to some of them while admiring the loco themselves. I'm assuming the permission was a within reason thing (ie. don't go too far) and no-one went out infront of the loco.
A spectacular loco makes a spectacular departure! 46512 gets the train back underway!
A beautiful distant Semaphore somewhere between Aviemore and Boat of Garten (I think). I was determained to get this shot right as I don't get to see distant Semaphores often by sadly living in Colour Light territory.
D5862 at Boat of Garten. This loco was part of a driver session for a tenner that day.
46512 meets 828 at Boat Of Garten as trains pass. 46512 with a train for Aviemore and 828 with a train for Broomhill. Hopefully in a few years this'll be a passing point for trains to and from Grantown-On-Spey.

828 bides her time at Aviemore before taking another train to Broomhill.

Also, many, many, many thanks go to the Strathspey Railway with whom I had my first ever train driving experience. I got to drive D5862 from Boat of Garten station, up to the signal and back again. It was both terrifying and incredible at the same time. Definitely got a new appreciation for Class 31s and a taste for more driving!
