Apologies if this has appeared elsewhere. I did use the "Search" facility. What I wish to know is if anyone has any information on how work on building/opening this line is progressing. Has an opening date been announced or even provisionally suggested?

I would suggest looking on the district dave forum, which i have found to be quite good when searching for info on crossrail, DLR & London Underground

London Reconnections is an excellent blog for all things London transport related. It last covered the DLR extension in June. http://londonreconnections.blogspot.com/2011/06/in-pictures-stratford-international-dlr.html

It's widely believed the delayed extension will be open in September when the new Westfield shopping centre opens its doors. Posters on the DLR are promoting its opening as 'coming soon', and new route maps have been placed inside carriages albeit with blank stickers covering the new stations. Having passed the new Abbey Road and Stratford Market stations, plus the refurbished Canning Town, West Ham and Stratford (Regional) DLR platforms recently, I can confirm it looks like finishing touches are being made with signs etc already in place.

UPDATE! Sources have told London Reconnections the DLR extension will open 29 August. http://londonreconnections.blogspot.com/

Great!

Has it been confirmed yet whether transition between Stratford International and Stratford Domestic will be free on the DLR, or will they expect people to walk through Westfield to change between the two stations? :)

I don't know about the fare structure. I guess it would be the same as any other DLR zone 3 to zone 3 fare. Oyster pay as you go isn't accepted on Southeastern High Speed so I guess there's no point having an out of station Oyster transfer between Stratford International DLR and Stratford (regional). Presumably Season ticket holders on SEHS who alight at Stratford International can choose between taking the DLR or walking through Westfield to reach Stratford (regional).

http://www.londontravelwatch.org.uk/document/13855/get

"So far we have managed to get agreement from the various parties that tickets marked with a ‘+’ sign as per usual cross London arrangements will be honoured by the DLR, but that tickets to either Stratford station to get to the other one will not be honoured."

So as tickets from Ilford to Ebbsfleet, or any other fare that I can find that involves interchange between the two stations, already carry the '+' sign because they allow travel via central London termini and Underground as well as via Stratford, they should be fine for the DLR. I can only see a problem if a 'Not London' fare is created which would require passengers to change at the two Stratfords and ban travelling via central London.

I didn't realise that London Travelwatch were trying to get DLR acceptance on tickets that terminate at Stratford.

Trains were due to begin operating ECS on the new extension from Monday on the new schedule, however, this has been put back once again. The latest target date for opening is 30th.

As for travel between Stratford and Stratford International, passengers would need to have a valid ticket for the journey (i.e Shenfield to Ebbsfleet), travelcards or Oyster Cards- there are validators at Stratford International DLR Station. However, passengers with a ticket, for example Ebbsfleet to Stratford International, will need a seperate ticket for the DLR journey

Sunday there were trains moving back and forth down the branch (I saw them at Stratford, there was also a security guard guarding the stairs down to the platforms at West Ham)... this Sunday there is the emergency test event which I got a place on, but now cannot attend due to work :( so the absolute earliest is Monday next week, but as said it has now slipped to mid-september it seems...

A similar test took place the previous Sunday as well, which basically tests the infrastructure with a high frequency service in operation (every 1 to 2 minutes).

Interesting that it should open on a bank holiday; particularly interesting that Stratford to Bow is listed as being shut for engineering that day... and the DLR leaflet advertising that closure makes no mention of the opening.

I have yet to see the closure leaflet for the Bank Holiday weekend yet, although the closure leaflets would probably have been printed before any changes to the opening date

According to London reconnections it's the 29th of August

I'll check the next time I'm there, trains are scheduled to be runing over the extension across the whole Bank Holiday Weekend (at the moment!) but ECS on at least Saturday and Sunday

I travelled on the HS1 from Stratford International on Saturday and it says the shuttle bus from Platform 11 to Stfd Intl stops on 20 or 21 Sept and after that time people will have to walk through Westfield.

I have seen DLR trains at West Ham today coming and going but when I ask DLR staff they just say soon.

Hopefully will be in full swing by 13th September as thats the opening of Westfield Stratford City. NXEA/TfL have been warned to expect upwards of 100k visitors over their 4-day extravaganza.

Tfl website just talks about closures on 26th August for final testing of the extension.

The original line opened on the August Bank Holiday 1987. I did ride it (and several central London bus routes that had gone opo on Sundays only earlier in the summer) that day!

Opened this morning.
New Maps available at stations showing the extension.

Are you sure it is actually running with passengers? On another forum it says it didn't start and they are still testing.

according to DLR DAISY for Stratford

Trains are running out of Plat 16 and 17 to Beckton and Abbey Road?

Don't know whether this is testing or not?

I travelled on the DLR/Jubliee line yesterday evening from Stratford to Canning Town to Limehouse and back again.

At 8pm the on train operator advised that they were hoping to run trains today although staff training had not been completed it would be done live and there was a flurry of activity on the new DLR stations between Canning Town and Stratford as late as midnight but I notice that the trains are still not running today.

Apologies, all internal stuff this morning was saying it was open.
I subsequently found out it didn't

The train operative yesterday told me that there were expecting upwards of 100K visitors in the first few days of Westfield Stratford opening. I guess there are 2 weeks until it opens for the DLR extension to be fully operational.
