Stranraer to Oakham

Hi guys

further to my northallerton to sunderland thread (thanks all will be taking advice given on that) I'll be travelling from Stranraer to Oakham on the 4th august its a thursday. I know the pricing but im wondering if anyone can reccomend a quicker route than Stranraer - Ayr - Glasgow - Birmingham Oakham. Looks like a 9 hour plus journey, im wondering if going from glasgow down the east coast might be quicker?

You can get journey times by using one of the train booking sites / journey planners, but it may depend on what time you want to do the journey (when does your ferry - if I am right to assume that's why you're originating at Stranrear! - arrive?)

Nuneaton is a good place to change, in the highly unlikely event of any Glasgow trains calling there! I reckon that would be the quickest if a good connection was provided. That said, you may be able to get a connection changing at Crewe or Stafford. Most of the Glasgows are non-stop from Warrington which isn't much use!

The ECML is an option, and with almost all Glasgow trains calling at Peterborough for connections to Oakham, is relatively straightforward.
