Stranraer - Ayr line Upgrade

Apparently there’s £10 million to upgrade the signalling on the Stranraer to ayr line this control period. Any ideas as to what this could look like? Think it currently operates the old electric token machines from dunragit to Girvan and all the boxes in between then tokenless block from Girvan onwards. Do you think that would close them all or would £10 million only fund a small upgrade possible to replace some signals and the old blocks to improve efficiency?

Network Rail are currently developing plans to improve the railway signalling on the Stranraer-Ayr line. The system is at the end of its working life, both in terms of its condition and many parts are now obsolete.

Be unusual if the boxes survived, the Stranraer station is of course to close and a basic more convenient replacement to be built.

Is £10 million enough to do anything meaningful at all? Surely not enough for any proper resignalling or station moving or anything such like at "railway prices"? It sounds just like a renewal of the token systems or a replacement with some other token system.

Oddly despite living near there a while ago I've never been beyond Girvan on the line and that only once - if they're going to be changing it I may have to get up asap.

Incidentally do they need any added signalling efficiency? Beyond Maybole and certainly Girvan I'm not sure there's exactly enormous demand, although I know there's a thread around on this forum somewhere where some guy valiantly makes the case!

My hunch would be a version of RETB. Gives basically the same capacity as now but in a far simpler format.

Not really, in all likelihood. There's no freight demand, so it's only the odd test train, weedkiller/RHTT or rail tour that needs to be accommodate about the passenger service.
