Pendolinos were regular visitors to Holyhead and North Wales for many years, dragged by locomotives. When I was travelling from Glasgow on Avanti, the announcements started saying stations on the Holyhead line. Pendos don't even go there never mind being the wrong route!
Seeing a 755 say Saxmundham at Norwich was an odd sight, though I didn't know that there is (or was) an Ipswich to Saxmundham service in the morning, so it has a reason to exist. Now been replaced with the somewhat silly Ipswich to Norwich via Beccles & Lowestoft service. When standing at Temple Mills (and presumably other depots) I've seen 745s with Berney Arms on the front as opposed to Not in Service
I saw a 345 passing Leighton Buzzard with Crewe as its destination on Thursday.I seem to remember TfL's Aventras have voice lines for far away provincial backwaters such as Manchester Piccadilly
Reminds me of the times I've seen "Platform TL" on an information screen, as well as an automatic announcement saying "The train now approaching platform TL does not stop here".After leaving Stoke, the on board PIS shows "Crewe Up & Down" as the next station
That's correct.Guessing the Azuma’s don’t have Bedford programmed given the paper destination cards today
Logistically how massive a task is it to add a destination onto every Azuma's screen list?Guessing the Azuma’s don’t have Bedford programmed given the paper destination cards today

Is that a data error in the schedule or just the train "reading" the schedule wrong. The Avanti 17:16 Euston - Crewe runs via Birmingham, Bescot, Wolverhampton, Stafford, and Stoke. It's scheduled to stand in Crewe Up & Down Pottery Loop 20:28 - 20:35 awaiting a path into the station. (It usually uses platform 12, so needs to cross the entire station throat).
After leaving Stoke, the on board PIS shows "Crewe Up & Down" as the next station.
That's an impressive data error to grab Temple Mills Jn in as well.Reminds me of the times I've seen "Platform TL" on an information screen, as well as an automatic announcement saying "The train now approaching platform TL does not stop here".
My favourite station has to be " ".![]()
I'm curious why the other timing points and destination weren't named if Temple Mills East Jn is.That's an impressive data error to grab Temple Mills Jn in as well.
Although many (perhaps most or even all) of the diagrams for services to Lowestoft actually run Ipswich - Lowestoft - Norwich or vice versa so there is little difference in practical terms whether they are labelled Ipswich - Norwich (via Lowestoft) or Ipswich - Lowestoft and then relabelled. Similarly, the Lowestoft <> Harwich services and new Lowestoft <> Cambridge services are more about 'image' and gleaning a few more £ from publicly 'joining up' stages of the working diagramsSeeing a 755 say Saxmundham at Norwich was an odd sight, though I didn't know that there is (or was) an Ipswich to Saxmundham service in the morning, so it has a reason to exist. The benefit is a guaranteed connection, where a service not advertised as a "through" service could be subject to a unit/platform change without notice to the passengers on board.Although many (perhaps most or even all) of the diagrams for services to Lowestoft actually run Ipswich - Lowestoft - Norwich or vice versa so there is little difference in practical terms whether they are labelled Ipswich - Norwich (via Lowestoft) or Ipswich - Lowestoft and then relabelled. Agreed, although I doubt there is much call from LWT passengers for travel to Cambridge or Harwich, (or, indeed, Ipswich or Woodbridge to Somerleyton or Reedham) especially at the times involved. The benefit is a guaranteed connection, where a service not advertised as a "through" service could be subject to a unit/platform change without notice to the passengers on board.
I do agree that there is little difference though. Every other East Suffolk service is advertised as terminating at Lowestoft, so why is this one unique? Is it just to confuse the few passengers who want to travel from Ipswich to Norwich at that time?
Then again, having the service "terminate" at Saxmundham before was also very arbitrary and strange, especially as it continued onwards as a SAX to LWT service anyway!
The time involves is useful for the Hoek van Holland ferry (arriving fifty minutes before check-in closes), but from Lowestoft alone, or even from Ipswich (one change at Manningtree and I think a direct service from Cambridge), likely still not a massive market.especially at the times involved.
I think it's a data error, with an unadvertised operational stop incorrectly coded as a passenger stop.Is that a data error in the schedule or just the train "reading" the schedule wrong.
Wasn't there an Northampton to Aberystwyth service via New Street under Central Trains...? I imagine that it still had it on the destination blind selection from when it ran as part of the fleetAnother one I found in the archives while looking for something else, once again an EMT 158 at Norwich going somewhere that I doubt has been visited by 158865.

158865 was never a Central Trains unit, it was a Wales and West/Wessex Trains set from introduction until 2007. The 158s had a standard destination list from new though, up until the shadow TOCs came in they wandered more in their first years.Wasn't there an Northampton to Aberystwyth service via New Street under Central Trains...? They certainly did have Ashby de la Zouch. They also had Coalville. They had a few places that didnt have stations. If you selected 398 it came up as Hereford North. Im sure it shouldve been Hertford North. If you selected 998 it would scroll thro everything in the directory. Each destination remaining on screen for about 20 seconds or so. It would take almost 2 hours to go thro the lot.Might have already been mentioned but I remember someone saying EMR (or EMT) sprinters had Ashby-de-la-Zouch programmed in for the proposed Ivanhoe line service
Could have used it on a railtour, seen a couple come throughThey certainly did have Ashby de la Zouch. They also had Coalville. They had a few places that didnt have stations.
