Strange 'controls' at track level at stations

Hi - there are some things at track level at stations that remind me of slider controls. I've always wondered what they are (rather poor pic attached)?

The switches are basically data for the railway engineers in charge of tamping and lining so that the track ends up in the right position relative to the platform edge when its being relayed or reballasted. They are also found under bridges where clearance is critical.

Ah thanks! Yes makes perfect sense, what confused me is they look like heater controls which did not make any sense...

Interestingly, some a "DM" on them. Then again, I've only seen DM ones so I was wondering: I presume these may mean the name of that line in particular, ie "Down Main", so presumably there's a "UM", right? Or are they all just "DM"s?

Any denoted with "DM" does mean they are calibrated to the Down Main, as "UF" would to Up fast etc......
