IM looking at going from Stowmarket to Paisley on the following times.

Depart 06.12 27/02/2014 and returning no later than 21.00 on 02/03/2014.

I have a forces rail card.

The single advance outbound seems to be 27.70 im happy with this.

The return has to be off peak at 104.95.

National rail return options are from 281.80?

Surely a mistake ?

Any ideas how a can get best valuse traveling on above dates and a first class option?

Cheers.

A return can cost more than two singles as advance fares are only available as single.

If you search for Paisley Gilmour Street - Stowmarket Avoid London on www.eastcoast.co.uk, there is a £43.05 Advance fare leaving on the 10.46, changing at Glasgow Central, walk to Queen St, and change again at Edinburgh and Peterborough, arriving Stowmarket at 19.14. An Advance First is available for £75.65.

Alternatively there is a later departure from Paisley Gilmour Street at 11.58, changing at Glasgow Central, Carlisle, Newcastle and Peterborough, arriving Stowmarket at 21.11, also available for £43.05 in Standard, but cheaper in First, for £61.45

There are standard advance singles from Paisley Gilmour St through to Stowmarket for £65.15, or around £92 first class. Use the east coast website and select route "via Peterborough". Takes an hour more than via London but is £100 less, although the via London price can probably be reduced by splitting.
