I don't think it's ever been removed - I'm sure the signage is still in situ.

Level crossing is still there - with barriers believe it or not. Also since the railway came first and importantly was never actually closed - just mothballed - the legal rights of the railway come first. Basically the road crosses the railway and not the other way round.

actually a stourbridge type solution could work to form a light railway connection to some areas of Leicester, such as Blaby and Enderby, potentially lutterworth???
