Is that actually correct?Official authorities need to be ditching X.
Aside from it's ownership problems, it's rubbish as a platform for disseminating information as you have to log in.

If you don't have an account you can only see tweets specifically linked to. So if the answer is in a reply, the link has to be to that reply, not the original question. Is that actually correct?![]()
Yes. It didn't used to be the case, though. One of many ways in which the platform has declinedIs that actually correct?![]()

From a source I will not name, below is information sent to all AWC staff for this weekend:-Avanti are advising potential passengers 'not to travel' north of Preston tomorrow due to Storm 'Bert'....
Train Travel Information | Avanti West Coast
For train timetables and train updates, visit Avanti West Coast online today and stay up to date with travel information for your journey. Find out more.www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk
- BSR from 11:00 tomorrow until Monday morning for Preston and beyond
- currently planning only two shuttles to Carlisle before 11:00 and nothing after that so everything will be terminating at Preston
- there will be no road transport provided so advise to customers is"do not travel" beyond Preston
- we have ticket acceptance with several operators in place already
- NR are preparing recorded announcements and the departure boards will be updated with the relevant information
Why should refunds be offered and ticket restrictions relaxed? Northern are clearly intending to run a full service? If the instruction is "do not travel" that doesn't seem like a choice. That's an instruction to "not travel".But Northern is only offering refunds if the train is cancelled. Similarly the train has to be is cancelled before use of an alternative is allowed, and then only with Northern and only on the same day. Is not issuing a "do not travel" really about giving passengers the choice, or just a reason not to offer the more extensive ticket relaxations that Avanti is?
My comment was in response to a suggestion that Northern had responded better than Avanti. Northern is attempting to run a service, clearly expecting disruption, but those with pre-booked tickets who decide to change or abandon their journeys will have no recompense unless they later find out their intended train was in fact cancelled. Also it's more acceptable to cancel work or other travel arrangements if you can truthfully say the operator is recommending not to travel. Why should refunds be offered and ticket restrictions relaxed? After Bert Foord? Let’s see how many get that one…..Not sure why you felt the need to put Bert in quotes... it is the name given to the storm by the Met Office (in conjunction with the Irish and Dutch Met Offices), and research shows that public messaging is more powerful when a storm can be referred to directly in this manner.
It is geography. Storm Bert is coming in from the west (most storms do that). The West Coast Main Line is on the western and windward side of the Pennines, and it goes high up into the Lakeland Fells, including some exposed sections. On the other hand the East Coast Main Line is on the eastern and leeward side of the Pennines, sheltered from the worst of the wind, and does not go up into any exposed hill country.Given that the weather maps show Bert sweeping across the country from West to East, you do have to wonder why Avanti have thrown in the towel yet again whilst LNER don't appear to have any issues at all (yet).
Nothing to do with the weather. Ambulance request for an ill passenger on board the LNER.York's having a bit of trouble at the moment - everything's delayed, a stopper Edinburgh stuck in platform 9 with the fast Edinburgh overtaking it on platform 5 and being given additional calls at Northallerton and Durham to compensate. Somewhere there's a XC and TPE too, the XC was meant to be ahead of the LNER fast but now it's sandwiched between that and the TPE.
That can't be the cause of all the issues, it's surely only contributed on top of the weather, the XC and the TPE were heavily delayed before getting anywhere near the ECML, and multiple LNERs were delayed prior to York (and most of Northern at York has been delayed to some extent too).Nothing to do with the weather. Ambulance request for an ill passenger on board the LNER.
The way your post is wrote implies the issues at York are caused by 1S04 (the stopper as you called it) which is not the case which is why I replied that the weather was not the case. That can't be the cause of all the issues, it's surely only contributed on top of the weather, the XC and the TPE were heavily delayed before getting anywhere near the ECML, and multiple LNERs were delayed prior to York.
It was a list of issues: general delays, then the LNER, then the XC and TPE.The way your post is wrote implies the issues at York are caused by 1S04 (the stopper as you called it) which is not the case which is why I replied that the weather was not the case.
Maybe if you had written that XC and TPE were already delayed, your post would have be taken/read completely different.
Clive Myrie called it Bertie on last night's news. The principle of naming storms, or just some of the individual names?
If the former, then I'd refer back to the strength of the public messaging that it provides. If the latter, then you are able to suggest your own for next season...
Nothing running in Airedale this morning.
No Bert Foord
Wharfedale is suspended too, looks like the 08.08 ex Ilkley got as far as Burley in Wharfedale, but at least was stopped in the platform. RTT suggests its OHLE problems.Tree down near Keighley apparently.
