Met office have now named Fridays storm Austen, first named storm of the season.

Looks like South West and parts of South Wales could be seeing wind gusts of 70mph or more, with gusts of 50-60mph inland. So I thought I would open a thread for any service changes or updates, so all in one place (hope mods don't mind).
Peak gusts in excess of 70mph are possible on the most exposed coastal areas, while 50-60mph are likely more widely within the warning area. Weather warnings are under constant review and could be updated as confidence increases, so it’s important to stay up-to-date with the forecast in the coming days.”

Storm Austen will move from west to east through Friday, with winds generally diminishing later in the day. Rain is an additional hazard, with 20-30mm in many places and higher totals possible over higher ground in the west and further north on Friday.

Although 70+ mph gusts are not uncommon in the autumn, at moment still lot of leaves on many trees, so that might make effects worse.

At the moment doesn't appear to be any planned changes to train times, but often wait to afternoon or evening on day before to announce them

Definitely something to watch. As you say, an unusually high number of leaves on trees still, and on top of the long dry summer.

The first significant wind storm in the south-east will be pretty disruptive when it happens for the same reasons, fortunately this one seems to be missing that area.
