I took a trip yesterday, out to Midland Road and managed to see 6 of the 5 stored Freightliner 66s (66573/574/578/579/580/581). 66580 is the one I didn't see. 66573 carries no branding and I was wondering what will happen to these locos as they have been stored for quite some time. Anybody know?

There is a picture of 66573 without any branding at Midland Road

No - one has any use for them, FL are getting the new class 70's which will release more, the only possible users could be GBRf who seem to be taking more and more of ex DRS / Advenza / FL. Colas now have 3 for their fleet and may want to take more but I can't see any mre uses unless new freight flows start...

Some will be moving to Poland, some may be coming off lease...

If neither of those, they'll be stored awaiting traffic to pickup. ISTR one of them is stored because it has brand spanking new wheelsets under it.

I think it's fair to say that interesting things could start happening to the 66s as they become due for their first heavy overhauls.

I'm reliably informed the 70's have already been banned on the marches due to reliability issues... perhaps we could see some 66's brought back out til reliability is improved?

Although 70006 apparently went that way on Saturday morning on a Portbury to Fiddlers Ferry coal train!

Well another one went up the Marches today and failed near craven arms.
