Stored 321/4s to NORTHERN

I've been informed that 321410 and 321429 are to be transferred from store (at Bletchley?) to Neville Hill depot Leeds for Northern, in order to allow a cascade of diesel unit(s) to eliminate the Workington/Maryport loco hauled diagram (and other shortages).

I await confirmation that 5Z02 (with 321410) is being dragged to Neville Hill today.

According to members of UKmodernEMU there is/was a 5Z02 drag involving 321410+321429 (57302 doing the honours). Assuming the formation has arrived, the units should be in Doncaster (Wabtec again) and not Neville Hill.

FCC were given the option of taking the 4 extra 321s on, however they decided the cost was too much, so told DafT they didn't want them. Where DafT now want to send them is anyones guess... The rolling stock plan was due in Autumn!

I was wondering where you heard that, then I recalled ajax103 posting something about it (see post #156). Since then he made another post on the subject (see post #195), so we'll have to wait and see.

That said, it was mentioned on UKmodernEMU that 410 and 429 may be split between FCC and NXEA.

57302 dragged 321410 and 312429 from WN to Donny today and Northern driver taking 410 forward to NL. He was waiting for fitness to run certificate from EH to arrive before he took it. Lots of Northern staff with him going for a ride. 429 left at Wbtec.

Makes sense regarding which sense which unit was taken and which was left.

321 429 is officially part of NXEA allocation, whereas, as Pumbaa mentions 321 410 has never *officially* been confirmed as FCC espcially after FCC said they didn't want them due to cost

Would have seemed more sensible for LM to keep more 321s, use them to release 350/2s onto Birmingham 323 work in turn releasing LM 323s to Manchester.

Well just in from UKmodernEMU, the unit is on lease to Northen till the end of January.

The Moove on wednesday was a Eastleigh to Wabtec Doncaster moove, with 57002 / Virgil Tracey...And as stated, will end in january when theyll either be split between FCC and NX, or shall both make their way back to Eastleigh for storage again...

And if anyone wants to know the reason why 57302 was so late getting back on tuesday, that would be down to the brakes on 321429:roll:

My thoughts exactly.

Unless there's new electrification I didn't know about, there's not much scope for Northern to use EMUs to replace DMUs apart from the Morpeth service (which would need to be cut from the Metro Centre)

However, other TOCs regularly use DMUs on services entirely under the wires

There is scope for Northern to take on extra 2 EMUs on Manchester Piccadilly based services. Currently 142s are running peak Crewe/Alderley Edge/Macclesfield/Hazel Grove-Manchester services and are actually causing delays on the WCML with their 75mph top speed.

There is a morning rush hour diagram on the triangle booked for a 158. Also, I believe that some daytime Ilkley services are booked for 144s. Either one or both of these could be replaced with a 321, which would otherwise be wasted in store.

Don't quote me, but I think there is usuallly a daily Aire Valley diagram covered by a diesel unit. Whether diagrammed as a diesel or down to daily shortages of electrics I'm not sure...

The Dusti bins are for extra cover on the ECML Leeds to Doncaster & the Triangle (Leeds,Ilkley,Skipton)

Yep! Its booked as a 144. But can be 142 or 150/0/5/8 class. Its whats available really?
