Stopping short on alternative route during disruption

I have an advance ticket from London Paddington to Worcestershire Parkway during the period during which the Nuneham Bridge will be closed. Rather than take the Didcot to Oxford replacement bus I intend to use one of the alternative routes for which ticket acceptance is in place, ie via Swindon and Cheltenham. It would suit me to end my journey at Cheltenham rather than go through to Worcestershire Parkway, but this would be stopping short on an advance ticket, so would I be likely to run into trouble at the Cheltenham gates?

The advance ticket rules will still apply so you may well run into trouble if you try to end your journey short (I don’t know anything about whether that’s likely or not at Cheltenham specifically).

It’s worth adding that planned engineering works are not ‘disruption’ so it’s certainly worth double checking that your ticket allows for this alternative route.

I don't think that the sudden closure of Didcot to Oxford can be regarded as planned.

I don't think that the trains that run via Cheltenham even stop at Worcestershire Parkway, so you'd have to change at Cheltenham if you wanted to get there - I see no issue in just exiting at Cheltenham. If you want to get complete confirmation, perhaps just message the gwr twitter team what you posted on here as they are usually very good at replying quickly and I would expect them to send a message confirming that exiting at cheltenham is ok, and then if you have any issues at the Cheltenham barriers you can show them the conversation on twitter.
