Kind of applies to other sims as well but has anyone got any advice on the best way of slowing down to stop at stations, or is largely about knowing the train?

I usually find myself slowing down too early and crawling into stations at 5mph (in the real world that would almost certainly annoy passengers!) or not slowing soon enough and flying through the station, stopping a fair bit after the platform.

Generally it isn't a huge issue but on timed scenarios, the slowing too early can mean losing vital minutes that cause you to fail station stops

Generally, you want to be looking at approaching a station at between 20-35 mph, depending on how long your train is and how long til the appropriate stop sign.

Also depends on signal aspect, if you're coming up to a red, best be going about 15-20 mph so you can slow to a gentle halt before the signal.

In terms of braking, I tend to use B2/B3 on a HST/loco to slow to 25/35 approaching a station, then B1/2 (3 if I have to) for MUs or B3/4 for HSTs/locos (again, more if required).

it really depends on the train.. Some have more breaking power than others. In openbve i usually drive a HST and enter the station beteween 35-30 mph then B3 to slow down and B2 then B1 as i come to a stop
