Stop Short on Advance - Delayed?

Hi,

My daughter and her husband were booked on the 1638 Glasgow Central to London Euston (eventual destination Stevenage). This was cancelled and they took "next available" which was 16:51. I can't find that one anywhere on RTT but think it may be one from Edinburgh that started from Glasgow instead. Does that happen often? She's heavily pregnant so didn't want to risk not getting a seat on the 1734.

Anyway, this doesn't get in to Euston until 2325 (if on time). Can they stop short at Milton Keynes and I drive over to get them from there, or will that incur a penalty?

If the 16:51 (this is a diverted Edinburgh service) is on time at Crewe you could always change on to the 20:23 to London Euston which is also an Avanti service so, given the booked service was cancelled at Glasgow and this would be the fastest same operator option, the ticket should be accepted. The 20:23 from Crewe goes via the Trent Valley instead of via Birmingham so gets in to Euston significantly earlier at 22:37.

Glasgow (Edinburgh) to London service currently on:

Possible connection at Crewe for faster journey:

Thanks, yes, they could have got this one at Glasgow but were concerned there would be no seats. Changing at Crewe could be an option though if it's a bit quieter.
EDIT - I see it's from Liverpool - sorry for the confusion!

Yes, a 9 car is best avoided on this route.

Unless there is a major event at Liverpool, this 11 car train will have loads of spare seats!

Thanks. She's just (1733) received a message from Avanti saying that her train (1638) has been cancelled.
