Network Rail Scotland, ScotRail and Virgin Trains are reporting that a Stoneblower has derailed near Kirkconnel, with trains now unable to run between Carlisle and Kilmarnock

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/119039.aspx

An engineering train has derailed at Kirkconnel and is causing disruption to trains between Carlisle and Glasgow Central via Kilmarnock.
Trains cannot run between Carlisle and Kilmarnock.

Virgin Trains have ticket acceptance with both Virgin Trains East Coast and CrossCountry, and are also running additional replacement bus services.

ScotRail have a replacement bus service in operation.

January really hasn't been Virgin's month has it?

Is it just me, or has an unusually high number of engineering trains been derailing lately?

(Edit: Mods I spelled Kirkconnel wrong in the title, can a mod fix it please?)

It is back on the rails now. Track being inspected before it opens up again though.

With it being rerailed so quickly I'm wondering if it just came off at a set of trap points.

Looks like there has been some sort of failure of the points there going by the position of the rear half of the train- all mechanical at that box.

Yea the picture on Twitter is mine, It came down to Kirkconnel from the North, Was crossing back over to go to the sidings at Kirkconnel when it came off on the Cross over, There is damage to the leading bogie, when I left it was sitting in Platform 2 while they attempted to get the track sorted to take it over to the sidings for an engineer to assess
