I can't seem to find this ticket via booking engines for 1st November

At a guess, I suspect that you need to opt for "via Kensington Olympia" - I'll check later.

Update: That works although you may also need to select London Midland as the train operator.

What booking engine are you using? I've tried via Kensington and selected London Midland on National Rail and get £68.90?

I have just realised that I was looking at tomorrow rather than 1st November. But NRE will show me the ticket for travel out on the 1st on e.g. the 0828 or 0928 and return on e.g. the 1510, 1523, 1610, 1623, 1710 or 1723.

I don't seem to be able at the moment to access any retail sites that use the mixing deck.

Yep, you can break your journey as many times as you like there and back. Bear in mind though that the cross-London marker only allows one such journey to be made, and if you break your journey while crossing London, you can't normally go back in - you'd have to find your own way to Croydon.

You may not break and resume the Underground transfer (Euston to Victoria or London Bridge), but you may still break your journey on National Rail as much as you wish. A break at Clapham Junction or Balham for example would be fine.

If you do decide to leave at an intermediate Underground station, some staff are not aware that this is permitted so you might have problems - the ticket will not work the barriers unless it's a NR interchange.

I have resorted to printing a copy of the relevant public-facing details from the NRE website, as staff at certain Tube stations are deeply unfamiliar with this! That said, some others are very good.
