It varies a bit. Generally its 221s however you'll find some throughout the day (in peaks) will be a 10 car.

Generally with the 10 car sets the rear set will detatch at Chester and either terminate there or go forward to Wrexham, whilst the front set will go forward to Holyhead on its own.

The 08:50 from Euston to Holyhead on a Saturday is usually a 390 hauled from Crewe onwards too.

The biggest irony of the "Super Voyagers" is that whilst their tilt gives them a slight advantage on the WCML (although not as much as 390s as they don't tilt as much), it also adds to their weight, making each car 10t heavier. Having the same engines as Voyagers means that the do suffer from lower performance, roughly the same as the 2+7 HSTs. I imagine they have higher track access charges too, and are a higher Route Availability (4 instead of 2).

I wonder what they would do should the VT Class 221's go down the pantograph coach option?

I was watching the 221s along the WCML last week at Nunueaton, Atherstone and Tamworth, with the noise of the engines they appear to go faster than the Pendos, although they don't.
Anyone know what their line speed is through these stations?
TIA

125 through Tamworth, 100 through Atherstone and 125 through Nuneaton.

Many thanks Pumbaa, I know that they get a move on:)

It seems strange to me to see the Intermodals coming through Nuneaton on Platform 2 or 5 at about 75mph, I am used to seeing stuff crawling through there at 20mph in the 70s, even drove through there myself on a freight, actually all the way from Colwich Jct and more than once. :D
