Stock Take@Network Rail

Folks,
l'm no business man however l can't help but observe the amount of materials,scrap metal,steel rails and even electricity that are being stole from Network Rail.

l appreciate that it is imposible to have all railway stock taken to a yard but l feel this property is basicaly there to be stolen by would be thieves.
l know of rail yard with no security,even containers which are not locked and god knows what they contain!

l have even been told of a snack van which gets its electricity from the railway station for free:roll:you couldn't even get that deal on the Dragons Den.
Anyone any thoughts

I had one occasion when some of the local poor, deprived, poverty stricken youths tried to nick some Overhead Line Equipment while it was still live – they got the nastiest shock (no pun intended) of their lives. Needless to say, they didn’t try it again.

There is something rather strange about the approach taken by Network Rail at the moment from my lay viewpoint.
There seems to be much talk of theft of cables and so forth (the electricity is a new one on me but I guess I can see how it might come about both legitimately and as Lawman suggests).
What troubles me though is the amount of stuff dumped trackside by the maintenance crews, I wonder if Network Rail took the opportunity to go along the tracksides and pick up all the dropped bits of rail, cable etc. if that might pay for itself.
Certainly taking the odd bits and pieces away would make for a nicer working environment and perhaps reduce the temptation to steal or vandalise?
Some bits and pieces might even be suitable for sale into the Railwayana field.

Add to that the possibility to use the same clear up to get rid of the old prams, shopping trolleys and so forth it really could make a difference to the view from the train. I believe a clearout was done some little while ago to form the Reading Mile, I wonder what the results were like apart from a slightly bare trackside?
