Stobart Rail closing down

Before I start a mass panic, the closure is the rail engineering side as reported on railfreight.com. It specifically states in the article that intermodal trains are not affected as, presumably, they are part of the road haulage operation.

"Stobart intermodal trains – or rather trains carrying Stobart branded intermodal containers – will still be seen around the UK network and western Europe. Whether the ‘other’ Stobart brand remains visible is up for debate. Another name change perhaps."

We have to hope, and push, the road side make increased use of the intermodal side.

I think they were a fairly small scale operation in rail terms? I wonder if the people and plant will find a home with a different contractor?

Oh I agree - but it was a foot in the door and a platform for further rail growth in the logistics train. I just think it is a horrible precedent and sends us down the slippery slope of more carbon production.

they do a decent amount of infrastructure work and hold a Principle Contractors License.
