You still have three more weeks to admire the old semaphores before the improved signalling comes in.

Thank goodness! Whilst I like semaphores myself they have no place on the modern railway. Creeping along in thick fog peering out for the tiny dot that is a semaphore light is just not acceptable anymore. I'll be sad to see them go but its time now.

Removal works going on at the Riverside bridge, but also track being renewed & laid - the new double lead junction is taking shape. There is also work taking place at the Causewayhead Road bridge which is being renewed this month as well.

I visited Stirling yesterday to see the progress of these works. A gantry has been put in south of the station for the new signals. The semaphores were still being used although some have already been taken out as part of the track works.

Shore Road bridge appears to be demolished. There are big concrete shells in place for the railway arches.

Out of interest, is Stirling the last station in Scotland to have more than one signal box overseeing the station? Also, will the boxes themselves be closing once the new signals are in place?

Both the signal posts went to Bo'ness though one (SM10, SM30 & SM34) subsequently went to Downpatrick & County Down Railway. It will be used as a LQ on one of the lines there.

The posts and boxes are all listed, hence the posts going into preservation. If it comes to removing the boxes, I'd imagine the same will apply to the them.

Both boxes will stay for the moment. The frame in Stirling Middle is to be relocked but the new signals and points will still be controlled from the 'box.
