Stirling Middle junction works

A large contractors compound has sprung up at Stirling, just beside the station, so it looks as if the major junction remodelling works will be starting soon

Further to the above, I have since learned on another forum that the works will also result in Stirling Middle losing all its semaphore signals :cry::cry::cry:

Like you, Matchmaker - I've mixed feelings! It's great to see upgrades and improvements, but will be sorry to see Stirling loose its semaphores as they are probably the best remaining example in Scotland.
As a non-technical guy, I've often wondered why an old technology which is labour intensive has lasted on our railways for so long - especially at main-line locations.
