I've got family coming to visit at the weekend- travelling down Friday. Whilst I'm sure every effort is being made to reopen the route via Berwick, there now also seem to be problems on the Carlisle-Newcastle line. There is also no replacement bus service.
If this persists, what would be their best option for travelling on Friday? As far as I know, they have Super Off-Peak Returns, Route Not London.

that's what I was thinking- but I don't know what the validity might be.

The East coast website says the the following are accepting East coast tickets at the moment:

Virgin: Euston/Birmingham-Edinburgh/Glasgow services
Northern : Leeds-Carlisle
TPE : on any reasonable route.

Maybe change at Carlisle for a trip over the S&C & then get an East coast service from Leeds to Peterborough or Stevenage?

There may be some HST diversions via Hexham for through services from Newcastle-Edinburgh by then, but the line through Hexham has got flooding at the moment.
