A report from the Mirror "says that workers working at Stewart Lane depot have had to be medically treated after inhaling chemicals that have been described as toxic. The report can be found here: https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/mystery-15-railway-workers-fall-31188765

Several railway workers have been treated after falling ill when dealing with "hazardous material" at a depot, emergency services say.

Some 15 contractors began feeling poorly after coming into contact with the mystery material at Stewarts Lane deport in Battersea, South London, on Wednesday. All of the workers have been treated by paramedics, as the turn of events has left operators baffled. Both British Transport Police (BTP) and London Fire Brigade were called to the scene shortly before 4pm. Fire crews said they were called to reports of an incident "possibly involving hazardous materials".

The bizarre incident was reported to authorities on Friday. Bosses at the depot told The Sun they “don’t know how staff have been affected by this or where it’s come from”. Workers clocking on for night shifts have since been briefed on the mystery and warned to take extra care. BTP has been contacted for further comment.

Hopefully everyone is OK and that the chemicals didn't get into the train's ventilation system so passengers don't inhale it.

How odd, hopefully it won't get into a train's ventilation system as then it could get to passengers.

Hopefully, I do hope that for passenger's safety, that trains are inspected before returning to service, although this would cause cancellations.

Depot outside London Victoria.
Which is actually called Stewart's Lane, which is what I suspect @contrex was getting at.
I would guess (interior) cleaning chemicals mixed with bleach and chlorine liberated. No residual risk once flushed and ventilated.

Funny (sic) story from the 80's, one of my colleagues from Brighton went there 'pass' to collect a loco and got mugged.
After that BR & ASLEF agreed that a taxi would be provided from the local station, which from my fading memory was Battersea Park to prevent it happening again.

Ah, I was thinking of the other bit that I can't remember the name of on the approach on the Southeastern side just past the Grosvenor Rail Bridge.

Grosvenor Shed on the Eastern side; on the Central side you have Pugs Hole Sidings outside the BTP building, and Battersea Pier Sidings further south adjacent to Battersea Park station

I think @contrex was alluding to the fact it should be Stewart's lane, not Stewart lane. FWIW 'Stewart' is the original scottish spelling and Stuart is the french form.
If you're going to get pedantic over an ancient mispelling, if you look at the name origins it should really be "Steward's Lane".

I don't particularly mind, tbh. It was largely in response to the comment in #6 about Scotland and Stuart. I certainly didn't say the Depot should be renamed.

is the DB/VSOE section of the depot also third-railed?
When I went round Stewarts Lane in the 80's there was 3rd rail up to the door of the shed where the VSOE pullman stock was. Of course, that may well of changed in the last 40 years !!
Sorry I can't be of more help.

The actual VSOE stock uses a pitted road in the GTR shed that isn't third railed (none of the pits are), and the VSOE shed to the north of the Yard is not third railed, but most of the rest of the depot is.

From previous writings on this site, it was said that S. Lane (whew! - dodged that one) stabled the fleet of 455s that serviced Southern's metro routes. Now they are gone, are 377s stabled in their place? I realise that many 377s are stabled on the long sidings at Selhurst
