Steamlined Trains v End Door Fronted Trains.

Depends how much space there is around the train in the tunnel. Tube trains are not streamlined because the air has nowhere to go except to be pushed in front of the train (the piston effect).

In the late 1930s there were trials with streamlined tube trains - this made the trains slightly longer and was seen as 'wasted space'. Also, I think the train drivers did not like sitting in a central position instead of on one side side of the train.

There may have been other reasons too - as we know the project was abandoned and the test trains converted to flat front.

Just wonder how much faster than 100 mph do you need to go in this country apart from the HS1/HS2 and the East and West coast main line and possible the main line to the West Country.

There's a fair bit of 125mph running on Cross Country north of Birmingham and parts of Birmingham-Bristol could probably benefit too.
