I wondered what looked suspiciously like a group of trainspotters were doing gathered in the car park near Luton Airport Parkway. A couple of minutes later my question was answered as I saw a stream train at the station. I captured a video (sorry - through a window!) of it pulling away if anyone is interested.

(The letters on the rear unit were WCRC (not WCML!) - and feel free to move thread if there is a better place for it!)

I think the letters were more likely WCRC (West Coast Railway Company) ;)

Are they definatly train spotters?.

some of them yes (aka the ones standing in the car park before the train arrived) - others just got lucky or are on platforms waiting for normal trains

and here are a couple of vids of the day

First shot of the day was just outside Wellingborough, I knew it would be cruising here, but this spot was chosen for its sun behind fantastic long curved approach. I also guessed it would be crowded, so rocked up early - check out the group photo at the end!

Then it was a quick evacuation and a fast drive through the Welland Valley past the Viaduct (there were gricers perched in fields everywhere, like flocks of birds) to a spot just after Wing Tunnel. Didn't have that much time to prepare, and SG was ahead of time, so I forgot to turn off my mobile.

Anyway, some very deft and careful driving required here on the slog up Wing to Manston, track conditions were pretty bad, and you can see much work by the driver to keep the show on the road. At one point you can see and hear a quick shut off followed by a blast of steam - sanders or drain cocks not sure but good work by the crew to keep the momentum up

Apart from the phone issue - I am pleased with this outcome.
