Over the course of the last few years, I have been down to London's Waterloo & Victoria stations to watch a number of various steam tours arrive and depart.

I was just wondering when the last steam hauled service or Rail tour operated from one of the following stations in the title and what would the possiblity of one happening again:?:

Can not remember the last time a steam service ran from these stations. It would be very dificult to run from there given the number of trains using the stations let alone the problem of finding a path through London Bridge and Borough Market Junction

I believe Charing Cross and Cannon Street may be no go for steam on account of being "underground" officially (if not in reality). I think even diesels may not be allowed anymore !

I think the only tours you'll find going into the likes of Blackfriars & Cannon Street these days would be the various Buffer Puffer type tours that operate mostly around Greater London...

I think Blackfriars could be off limits for railtours even when the building work is finished, as the station will be completely enclosed.

That's the beauty of those wonderful Victorian trainsheds. I'm surprised that more don't go from London Bridge. They should make the most of it while it's still there.

Thats the one  Thanks - and with London Bridge, id of thought its because of the high volume of services using the "Southern" side of the station and it would be difficult to path.

Quite possibly. Still a shame though.

I have been on Steam Charters a couple of times in recent years from Cannon Street and by Diesel too, the most recent was last weekend HDL around Kent. I have also been on Steam and Diesel railtours that started/ended at the High and low level platforms at London Bridge.

Blackfriars Bridge used to have a "no loco" restriction on it - following severe war damage and a hasty repair job. Very unlikely now due the rebuild station works bieng mostly glass.

Many thanks everyone for the replies.

I just wanted to know whether steam had ever run there recently or the possiblity of steam going back there, as i personally think one of those stations would be great place to see steam run to/from.:)

Maybe it's been relaxed a little. I think I remember reading somewhere that the Thumper had to loiter in the open end of the platform at Charing X on some occasions.
