Steam Tour Updates on Twitter?

I didn't explain well the first time round so:

For the NRE you can get updates from the TOCs about delays on lines on a daily basis:

Do Steam/Rail tours have the same thing? If you're say catching it, photographing it or videoing it, could you get updates about its progress over Twitter?

If so, what's the Twitter account?

If not, why hasn't someone done it yet?

Not sure about Twitter, but there's something called Railtour Live which gives updates about steam tours - see the top of the page at uksteam.info 2011 tours.

I have been trying to find a Facebook page, where by, sittings can be posted as they happen, by everyone.

As we all know, it can be very frustrating if there are delays in the published times, and you don't have a mate further up the line to report the problems.

Yeah that's why I thought about having twitter updates, or a group of tweeters who update on railtours.

Why would you need such a thing? On tour days, there are people everywhere photographing, viewing, videoing or generally spotting trains, you can set updates on text, or apps for phones or even on portable computers with Twitter.

Anyone could tweet or go on facebook and say "60163 running late, by 10 minutes" or "Tangmere left London, on time!" Get it retweeted by a set of users who can retweet on phones, laptops or other with access to the account.

The issue is that anyone could talk utter bull on it and it would be forwarded to all the members - too easily abused

Sure. But that happens already with the various email groups, not often but it does happen and those who seem to get pleasure from posting false gen soon get recognised. Not a problem and not a reason not to do it really.

It would be nice to see a non-profit motivated alternative to the NatPres offering.

What about, people with Twitter accounts update their twitter account with an "@" mention to the twitter account, then relevant tweets are retweeted?

Email is good yeah but Twitter can be quicker and easier, I might set it up, I'm just thinking about how to work it.

But for Twitter, you'd have be 'following' everyone, or rely on a re- tweet ?

With one Facebook page, anyone could read it, or add to it like a real time notice board. My concept is for everyone to have input - not just someone uploading published times .

Maybe someone will point me in the direction of a Facebook group that already does this ?

The only thing I can think of doing is a Facebook Page where people can like it and post on the wall, is that what you are thinking?
